Actormusician UK aims to provide theatre companies, producers, casting directors and directors with a simple and easily customised breakdown of the multi-skilled performers working in the theatre industry today. It also aims to provide a place where actor musicians can find one another and foster a stronger sense of community in the industry. It is not an agency, nor is it a replacement for Spotlight. It is simply a tool to help us navigate that extraordinary database more efficiently when casting actor musician roles.
Actormusician UK was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 by London based composer & lyricist Darren Clark. Over the last ten years, his multi-award winning and critically acclaimed musicals including, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Wicker Husband and These Trees Are Made of Blood have relied heavily upon the skills of many brilliant actor musicians to bring them to life...
But it was often a long, difficult search to find the performers with the skills required...
Many theatre makers in the early stages of their careers can't afford Spotlight membership in order to have access to their call out and search functionalities, and have had to rely mainly on time consuming internet searches. But even Spotlight, whilst an incredibly powerful tool, does not necessarily lend itself to the particular challenges facing musical directors, composers, directors and casting directors when it comes to casting specialist actor musician shows.
